WEST YORK, Pa. — The West York Bulldogs opened their season with an impressive 19-9 victory over Susquehanna Township in a matchup between two of District 3’s top 4A teams from a year ago.
Susquehanna Township, the No. 1 seed in District 3 4A last season, struck first when a punt went over the head of West York punter Jensen Ferber, resulting in a safety.
The Bulldogs quickly answered with a big play, connecting on a 70-plus-yard touchdown pass to Janziel Torres to take the lead.
The Indians responded when sophomore quarterback Cael Fiedt found Stephon Malette for a touchdown with 30 seconds to go in the half. The Indians carried a 9-6 lead into halftime.
West York answered quickly after halftime, as Ferber connected with tight end Jamen Garnett for a touchdown.
The second half featured several momentum-changing plays, including one of the wildest sequences of the night. With West York backed up near its own end zone, the Indians came up with a blocked punt in the Bulldogs’ endzone. Ferber recovered the loose ball and, rather than allowing the play to turn into a disaster, picked it up and threw it to Thomas for a crucial first down, keeping the Bulldogs alive.
West York’s defense then came up with two huge plays of its own, stopping Susquehanna Township twice on fourth-and-goal opportunities at the goal line to keep the Indians out of the end zone.
Ferber later found the end zone on the ground, giving him three total touchdowns on the night and helping the Bulldogs pull away for the 19-9 victory.
The win gives West York an early statement victory over another top 4A District 3 opponent in which both teams entered the 2026 season with high expectations after earning the No. 1 seed and No. 2 seed last season.
