York County WR Visits
ACC D1 Program
Matte in the Lally Complex
at Syracuse University
Class of 2028, football player Jaishan Matte from William Penn High School in York, Pennsylvania, recently visited Syracuse University for a spring practice. Earning an offer in the fall from the Orange, Jaishan received a personal invitation from the coaching staff to visit. Standing at 6'3, Matte is a versatile player who is quickly gaining attention from Division I college coaches.
During the season, this breakout sophomore was invited to Vanderbilt University to attend a game, where he said he had an amazing experience. In comparison, this most recent trip to Syracuse was nothing short of that same caliber of moment, as he had nothing but positive things to say about the program, and the coaching staff.
When Matte was asked what he enjoyed about Syracuse and the visit, he didn’t hesitate to say what stood out to him was the intensity of the team and the practice. “One thing I like about Syracuse is the intensity,” he said, “They don’t stop moving, their conditioning is just moving back-and-forth from each period and they just work hard. You could definitely see the intensity throughout the practice.”

While attending the spring practice, Jaishan had the opportunity to see his former high school teammate and fellow AFL/CAP athlete, Shavane Anderson. The two played together in the fall, and seeing Anderson reach the next level was a meaningful moment for Matte. He said it not only motivates him to follow a similar path but also fills him with pride seeing his former teammate who is a hard worker succeed.
“Getting to see Shavane get to that level while understanding the hard work he put in made me proud of what he’s accomplished and motivates me as I want to be in the same position in a few years,” Matte said. “It was eye-opening, especially seeing him go from being a big fish in a little pond to now at a place where everybody is just as good as him. Watching him score and just work hard, just super proud of him.”

During his visit, Matte said he had the opportunity to talk to a handful of coaches. When he was asked about how he was treated by the coaches, he said, “The coaches treated me very well. I had a 10-15 minute conversation with at least four coaches. They all touched on the overall expectation of the program as well as what their expectations would be for me now and in the future, on and off the field.”
Getting an opportunity to talk to the coaches and build relationships was Matte’s favorite part about the trip. “They definitely make it feel like I’m at home and I feel like Syracuse is definitely a place to look forward to in the future.” Matte, being only a sophomore, looks to receive more invitations, and visit more collegiate programs.
